MGM GRAND DETROIT CHEFS COOK UP HOLIDAY FEAST FOR YOUTH AT COVENANT HOUSE MICHIGAN

12/9/2008
DETROIT – December 9, 2008 - MGM Grand Detroit's culinary team brought the holiday spirit to the Covenant House of Michigan this evening with a holiday feast and gifts for area youth who call it home.

"Our mission each day is to provide the highest level of customer service to those who visit MGM Grand Detroit Casino," said Dee Dee McKinney Odom, MGM Grand Detroit Director of Community Affairs. "Today, we are bringing that experience to the young people of the Covenant House in the holiday spirit."

A team of carolers made up of MGM Grand Detroit team members set the tone with holiday favorites, while casino executives served the meals that were prepared by MGM’s nationally acclaimed culinary team. Gift cards, gift baskets, and movie passes were given to Covenant House youth.

"Our team wanted to share their holiday spirit with young people who call the Covenant House their home," said McKinney Odom.

This stop is just one of three that MGM Grand Detroit is making to spread holiday cheer throughout Metro Detroit. Last month, MGM gave away 2,000 winter coats, hats, and pairs of gloves to more than 55 local community organizations. Since the inception of the initiative nine years ago, MGM Grand Detroit has donated 54,000 pieces of winter outerwear to 18,000 area children. Next week, MGM Grand Detroit will celebrate the holidays with students of Coffey Elementary/Middle School with a pizza party and gifts for students who may otherwise have none this Christmas, according to their teachers.

"We are grateful to MGM Grand Detroit for partnering with us for the last three years to provide the youth we service with a great meal in a festive holiday atmosphere," said Sam Joseph, Executive Director of Covenant House Michigan on Tuesday. "Our kids enjoyed this event so much."
