MGM Grand Detroit Restaurants Rise to the Occasion

DETROIT – January 03, 2008 - Hot off a truly sensational week of local restaurant reviews, MGM Grand Detroit is delivering on its promise to bring the finest cuisine and culinary talent to its new location.  Opened just three months ago, Michael Mina’s SALTWATER and BOURBON STEAK restaurants inside the $800-million destination recently garnered three phenomenal four-star reviews from respected Detroit restaurant critics within a one week period.  SALTWATER was commended with two of the prestigious ratings with nods from Free Press critic Sylvia Rector and Detroit News columnist Molly Abraham.  Mina’s second venue, BOURBON STEAK, also received four stars from Abraham.  In December, MGM Grand Detroit’s three signature restaurants consisting of Mina’s two venues and Wolfgang Puck’s eponymous Wolfgang Puck Grille, made headlines in Gourmet Magazine’s “Restaurant Roundup” section.

“We’ve worked diligently to create culinary experiences unlike any other in the Midwest at MGM Grand Detroit,” said Rich Schneider, VP food and beverage.  “The winning approach of our restaurants by Michael Mina and Wolfgang Puck combine culinary excellence with a superior level of service – two characteristics that are consistent at all of their restaurants throughout the country.  Here at MGM Grand Detroit, a large part of our success is determined by members of our community, and with three four-star reviews from Detroit media in one week, and national praise by respected publications such as Gourmet, we feel we’re on the right track.”

Upscale, modern and distinctive, Michael Mina’s signature restaurants redefine Detroit’s culinary landscape.  Both of Mina’s kitchens at MGM Grand Detroit are under the watchful eye of executive chef Don Yamauchi.  Formerly of Farmington Hills’ renowned Tribute restaurant, Yamauchi is a star on the rise having been named one of “America’s Best New Chefs” by Food & Wine Magazine and a former James Beard Foundation “Best Chef Midwest” nominee.  Also taking part in the creation of each restaurant’s early successes are Steven Fretz, chef de cuisine for SALTWATER and Andrew Ashmore, chef de cuisine for BOURBON STEAK.  Familiar with Chef Mina’s precise attention to detail and renowned culinary style, both professionals came to Detroit from other Mina restaurant locations in Las Vegas and San Jose, respectively.

SALTWATER features contemporary seafood and refined American cuisine in an elegant design that celebrates the richness of the sea. SALTWATER’s menu showcases Mina’s classic dishes including Lobster Pot Pie, Caviar Parfait, Tartare of Ahi Tuna and Mussel Soufflé alongside unique Midwestern creations.  BOURBON STEAK delivers imaginative interpretations of traditional steakhouse favorites in a sophisticated and edgy, yet casual urban setting.  Mina’s unique kitchen design inside BOURBON STEAK includes wood-burning grills to perfect his slow-poached all-natural Angus Beef, prime ribs, short ribs, short beef and short pork.  Both restaurants open nightly at 5:30 p.m.
